CPI calls for involvement of all stakeholders in traffic matters

December 17, 2014 09:00 am | Updated 09:00 am IST - Tirupur:

A meeting of the Communist Party of India’s district unit here has called upon the city police to elicit views of all stakeholders in the development of Tirupur knitwear cluster before coming out with constructive ideas to ease the traffic congestion.

Restrictions

“Traffic chaos is now a major issue in the cluster. Restrictions should be strictly implemented for the movement of heavy vehicles and vans with heavy loads through the city centre during peak traffic hours in the morning and in the evening,” CPI district secretary M. Subramanian later told The Hindu .

Suggestions

According to him, the city police officials should invite suggestions separately from political parties, industrialists and common road users to understand the difficulties faced by them and then compile the same to come out with an action plan to end the traffic chaos.

The party also called upon the State Government to set up a medical college and an engineering college in the district immediately, both of which were long pending requests from the people in the region.

Houses

Another issue that figured in the resolution was the demand for construction of houses for migrant workers employed in Tirupur knitwear industry. “This is essential to keep the predominant migrant workforce from moving away as the house rentals in the private sector had been soaring high with every year,” Mr. Subramanian said.
