A country-made gun has been recovered from a jeep near Gudalur.

Enquiries made by The Hindu revealed that when some forest officials were patrolling a section of the Pandiyar range recently, they intercepted a jeep, which was moving in suspicious manner.

The vehicle was stopped but the driver escaped. While searching the vehicle they came across a secret compartment in which there was the country-made gun, five cartridges, a few knives and two logs. It is suspected that the vehicle belonged to a gang of poachers.

Forest sources said that patrolling has been intensified and the local people alerted.
