Coimbatore Corporation is drawing up plans to re-start the waste transit station on Sathyamangalam Road.

Coimbatore Corporation plans to reopen the waste transit station on Sathyamangalam Road in Ganapathy in three months.

The corporation had to stop operation in February 2015 to facilitate construction of the Gandhipuram flyover.

At the time of stoppage of operation, the transit facility was handling close to 250 tonnes waste a day.

Lorries with waste collected from households would reach the centre, where the Coimbatore Integrated Waste Management Company Pvt. Ltd. - the contractor appointed to handle waste, would transfer those to compact bins and transport to Vellalore for processing.

Now with the completion of the first phase of the flyover project, the corporation said it was looking at restarting operations.

It had assessed that it would have to spend ₹2.50 crore, including ₹1 crore towards civil work.

The corporation would take care of the civil work and the contractor the cost of machinery. But the corporation would foot the contractor’s bill, as per agreement.

The corporation had readied a proposal to this effect and would forward the same to the State Government for approval.

Once it obtained the approval, it would begin work, the corporation said.

Meanwhile, the corporation was also looking at building the fourth transit station in Ondipudur.

The corporation at present had waste transit stations at Ukkadam and Peelamedu.
