There are several methods to boost sales – such as offering freebies, discounts and gift vouchers – but the end result depends on how well they are presented to reach out to the customers.
The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Cooperative Society Limited, popularly known as Co-optex, has hit upon an idea to woo its customers.
It has now rolled out bedspreads printed with the geographical classifications as found in Tamil Sangam Literature – Kurinji (mountainous region), Mullai (forest), Neithal (costal area, seashore), Paalai (desert) and Marudham (agricultural land), besides Tirukkural verses with meanings, lives and pictures of scientists, garbage management techniques and pictorial description of road safety.
The aim is not only to accelerate sales but also to leave a positive imprint in the minds of students. The idea was conceived by U. Sahayam, when he took over as Chairman and Managing Director of Co-optex.
The bedspreads, priced around Rs. 400 a piece, have generated interest among customers, says S. Kumar, Manager, Vasantham Co-optex, Erode.
Embracing innovative strategy is not new for the organisation. ‘Kutties Collection’ bedspreads with pictures of birds and animals introduced in the past reflected well on the sales volume, according to the sellers.
It does give a special feeling for the showroom staff when the cash register keeps ringing in and getting customers’ goodwill, says Syed Mohamed, Regional Manager.
