Construction workers receive welfare assistance

Over 20 lakh workers have enrolled with welfare board

Over 20 lakh construction workers in the State have enrolled as members of the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board, its Chairman Ponkumar said.

Over 3.93 lakh members were given welfare assistance worth over Rs. 119 crore through the board till date.

Of this, a sum of Rs. 95 crore was given during the present DMK regime, Mr. Ponkumar said while participating at a government function held here on Saturday.

A little over 47,700 construction workers in Erode district had registered their names with the board so far.

Of them, 5,381 workers were given welfare assistance to the tune of 1.12 crore, he added.

Listing a number of government schemes, Mr. Ponkumar called upon the people to take advantage of the welfare programmes to enhance their quality of life.

Later he distributed assistance worth Rs. 30 lakh to 2,271 beneficiaries selected through the board.

Collector T. Soundiah presided over the event. Mayor Kumar Murugesh and senior officials from various departments were present at the function.
