A 28-year-old construction worker of West Bengal was killed when a portion of a compound wall fell on him on Tuesday. Police said that P. Irfan Garji (26) and a few others were at work in the basement on Sixth Street of Dr. Radhakrishnan Road.

Irfan and other workers were working 10-feet below ground level and the wall above did not have any support, resulting in the collapse. While other workers reportedly managed to escape uninjured, Irfan was caught below the debris.

The other workers removed the debris and took him to a private hospital on the Avinashi Road, where he was declared brought dead. The police said that they were questioning the owner of the building and the contractor for allegedly not providing adequate safety measurers for the workers. The police said that a case was not registered till the late hours of the day and that further inquiries were underway.
