All pending works regarding school buildings will be carried out this financial year itself under the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. It was decided at the District Education Committee meeting held here on Wednesday.
It was decided to improve the Activity-Based Learning (ABL) teaching method, Activated Learning Methodology (ALM), education for the differently-abled children and training programmes for the teachers.
Training will be provided to all graduate teachers, ALM will be implemented at all high schools and higher secondary schools, the number of schools for drop outs will be increased, new Bridge Schools will be established and facilities at existing schools will be improved.
M. Baskaran, Project Coordinator, SSA, and Chief Educational Officer, presided over the meeting.
The meeting was attended by Natarajan, principal, District Institute of Teacher Education, DEOs, AEOs, Supervisors of Block Resource Centres and Teacher Trainers.
A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mr. Baskaran.
He said the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has initiated a novel programme of conferring ‘Star' rating for schools to encourage total sanitation by the district administration in association with the School Education Department.
Schools are given star status according to sanitary conditions prevailing in schools concerned. A total of 87 schools got 10-star status, 268 got nine-star, 383 got eight-star, 356 got seven-star, 280 schools got six-star and 119 schools got five-star status according to the manner in which they maintained sanitary conditions.
Schools that retain 10-star status till January 2011 will be awarded gold medal and a citation by the District Collector, he adds.
