The Indian Wind Power Association will organise a conference and exhibition here on wind energy from June 21 to 23.
Association chairman K. Kasthurirangaian told presspersons here on Monday that the conference will be on June 22 and 23 and the exhibition from June 21 to 23. It will have speakers from Germany, Japan, Spain and the U.S. These countries are ahead of India in wind mill installation. India is the fifth largest country in wind energy installation, with 23 GW. The objective of the event is to prepare a roadmap so that the country achieves 20 per cent grid penetration of wind energy by 2020.
The Union Government is looking at increasing new and renewable energy installation in the country to 175 GW, with the wind energy capacity going up to 65 GW.
The conference is expected to be inaugurated by the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy. A similar event was held here in 2012, he said.
According to Ramesh Babu, chairman of the exhibition, the display area will be 220 sq.mt and the exhibitors will include wind turbine manufacturers, spares suppliers, annual maintenance contract providers, etc.
