The Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) will launch a pilot project shortly to mentor civil engineering students in 10 cities in the country.

A meeting of the association was held here on Sunday.

National president of the association Ajit Sabnis told The Hindu on Monday that the demand for civil engineers was expected to go up as the Union Government was focusing on infrastructure development and Smart Cities.

Coimbatore centre of the association was conducting a student mentorship programme for several years now. It was decided to take it up a nation-wide project. “We are trying to target 20 colleges this year,” he said. “We have identified some institutes that have responded positively,” he said.

The programme will be a paid course and the students will be enrolled through the colleges.
