A complaint of criminal intimidation was filed against a Central Excise Officer at the Peelamedu Police Station here on Wednesday.
The police said M. Sathish had complained that he was summoned from Tuticorin for an investigation and was made to sign on some blank documents. He said that when he refused to do so, he was intimidated by R. Manimohan, Senior Excise Intelligence Officer.
The police have registered a case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (i) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
When contacted, the official said Mr. Sathish was summoned under a deemed judicial proceeding and had given a statement, which was written by himself in Tamil, his mother tongue.
“This complaint is an attempt to divert the course of the investigation. The charges are totally baseless.”
Jewellery stolen
Seven sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from a house at Arumugam Nagar, near Ramanathapuram, on Wednesday.
The police said, S. Major Kumar, a physiotherapist, returned home on Thursday around 6.45 a.m. when he found the locks on the front door were broken and the jewellery stolen.
Chain snatched
Two youth riding a motorcycle snatched a six-sovereign gold chain worn by an aged woman while she was taking a walk early morning.
The Pollachi East Police have registered a case.
Boy missing
A 14-year-old boy from Edayarpalayam has been reported missing. The police said that the boy went to attend a temple festival on May 11 and did not return.
