The non-teaching staff at Bharathiar University on Thursday staged a protest for a short while alleging that attempts were being made to misuse funds. Sources said that the staff's allegation was that whatever savings the university had made in the past few months was about to be invested in the State Government’s Tamil Nadu Power Finance Corporation.

The employees were not agreeable to this, the sources said and added that the amount was upwards of Rs. 150 crore. The university had already invested Rs. 56 crore in the corporation and another Rs. 40 crore in a State Transport Corporation and there were no returns. Moreover, last month the university had invested Rs. 10 crore in the Power Finance Corporation.

Therefore, the staff said the university should not any make further investment in such corporations but use the same for the university’s and staff's welfare, the sources said. They added that following talks between the agitating staff and the university management, the former withdrew the protest.
