Following reports that bombs could explode at courts, tension prevailed for a while at the Coimbatore District Complex and also the courts in Pollachi and Mettupalayam. It later turned out to be a hoax.

According to sources, the officials at the Coimbatore District Court received an alert from the Madras High Court that the latter had received a bomb threat call that bombs could explore at courts in the State.

Following the information, the Court officials here alerted the Coimbatore City Police, who, in turn, sent their Bomb Disposal Squad to sanitise the area.

The sources said that the policemen in the squad, aided by a canine sleuth, searched the court complex to ensure that there were no explosives.

Litigants, witnesses and others present at the court were not disturbed; nor were the court proceedings because of the search operation.

The policemen left around 1.30 p.m. after searching for an hour-and-half, the sources added.

Similar scenes were witnessed in Pollachi and Mettupalayam as well.

The sources there said that following information from the Coimbatore District Court, they had alerted the respective police forces, who rushed in with their men to ensure safety.

There too the proceedings were not affected because of the search operations.
