The district administration has asked the departments concerned to ensure that adequate measures were in place to face the ensuing north-east monsoon.

A meeting to discuss the monsoon preparedness was conducted at the Collectorate on Friday. Collector S. Prabhakar asked the health department officials to keep sufficient stock of medicines in hospitals and conduct special camps in fever-prone areas. The Fire and Rescue Services Department was urged to keep necessary gadgets ready for rescuing people in case of floods. The personnel were also asked to conduct disaster management drills in public places.

Tangedco officials were asked to keep emergency teams ready to attend to issues.

The Public Works Department has been asked to check the safety of bunds in water bodies and ensure the outlet channels were free of encroachments. Workers should be kept ready to chop the uprooted trees and restore traffic at the earliest during the monsoon. Special teams were asked to be formed for the above purpose.

The Collector asked the officials to clean and chlorinate the overhead water tanks in villages so that protected drinking water could be supplied to the people. He asked officials to send a report on the storage levels in lake, ponds and dams to the district administration everyday.

The Corporation was asked to repair damaged roads and ensure garbage was cleared regularly. He said that coordinated efforts by all the departments in relief and rehabilitation measures would ensure that people do not get affected during the monsoon.

For monsoon related complaints, people can dial 1077, 0424-2260211 or send sms to 78069-17007 so that department officials concerned are put into service at the earliest for necessary action.
