Traffic policemen in the city who get drenched in their sweat under the scorching sun and during heavy rain will soon have relief as they will get 82 portable barricades with shelters. The shelters will have photovoltaic panels to tap solar energy.
The barricades are getting ready at the office of the City Police Commissioner. They will be fully ready after solar panels and lights are fixed early next week.
These long-awaited barricades are from the Road Safety Funds following a request from the traffic police about six months ago. These barricades have a small fibre roof on both sides and a seat. It is in addition to the solar panels that will power the flash lights on either side of the barricade to indicate speeding vehicles to slow down at night.
A police officer said that the flash lights would not only help vehicle users, but also ensure better safety of policemen standing below. These portable barricades would initially be used at the important traffic signals in the city and in other places based on multiple factors including vehicular movement.
The barricades are expected to ensure minimum comfort level for policemen in terms of a seat and a shelter as they spent several hours together while regulating traffic. The solar energy tapped will power the indicator lights.
