The district police on Friday conducted a meeting for bankers in rural Coimbatore at the Police Community Hall here on safety measures to be carried out in banks. Representatives from banks were asked to stay abreast with technology in addition to conventional safety aspects.
The police asked banks to install CCTV cameras and have a dummy hard disk and a hard disk in a safe place. This was because there were incidents of robbers removing the CCTV cameras and the hard disk after theft of valuables. Officials were asked to install panic alarm systems that will alert the nearest police station in case of emergency.
Banks were asked to have a watchman for all the ATMs. Banks were also asked to employ energetic security personnel who could handle situations and prevent crime, compared to the common practice of employing aged persons.
Superintendent of Police of Coimbatore District R.V. Ramya Bharathi chaired the meeting. Around 150 managers and officers from various nationalised, private sector and cooperative banks participated in the meeting. The police said that they would be organising a follow up meeting in the first week of August to monitor the measurers taken by the banks.
