The rally organised by the Department of Commercial Tax in Coimbatore on Friday to create an awareness on GST.

Over 500 people took part in an awareness rally on Goods and Services Tax organised by the Commercial Tax Department here on Friday.

Officials in the department told The Hindu that government staff and officers, auditors, lawyers, sales tax practitioners and dealers took part in the 5-km rally that started and ended on the department premises here. About 88 % of the traders registered with the department have migrated to GST. Facilitation centres and help desks were set up to help the traders with migration to GST. With the new Act coming into effect from Saturday, traders and dealers who have practical difficulties related to GST can approach the facilitiation centres and help desks.
