Associations observe token fast to press demands

The Salem units of the Tamil Nadu Village Administrative Officers' (VAO) Association, Tamil Nadu Government Village Assistants Association and Tamil Nadu Revenue Village Workers Association observed one-day token fast here on Wednesday highlighting an eight-point charter of demands.

The members demanded that the mandatory need for submitting daily and monthly work progress reports and insisted that selection and special grade VAOs should be given grade wages.

A sum of Rs 800 per month should be given for maintenance of office premises. The village assistants should be given time bound scales.

They also wanted that the works of VAOs had to be the base for the revenue work.

Promotion policy

A comprehensive promotional policy based on seniority for VAOs should be made as in the case of junior assistants, typists, shorthand writers etc.

Orders should be issued to promote VAOs who finished 10 years of service as assistants' grade and those who completed 20 years should be made the grade of special deputy tahsildhar.
