Officers and jawans of the Madras Regimental Center (MRC) in Wellington celebrated the Army Day on Monday.
The Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year in recognition of Lieutenant General (later field marshal), K M Cariappa taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander on January 15, 1949.
In a press release, the MRC stated that the “army men of Wellington Military Station celebrated the Army Day with fervour and pride. A wreath-laying ceremony at the imposing Madras Regiment War memorial marked the occasion.”
At the event, Brigadier G.S. Rathore from the Defence Services Staff College, the senior-most serving officer, and Lieutenant General S. Pattabhiraman, (retired) (Ex-Vice Chief of Army Staff), laid the wreath.
