Attempts to stage road blockade agitations in Coimbatore
Anti-Lanka agitations continued on Friday and the police removed 49 students of the Government Law College and Arts College when they attempted to stage a road blockade near Town Hall and burn Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa in effigy.
Students of Bharathiar University who were on a fast for the 11th day on the Sri Lankan called off the agitation. Before winding up the fast that they had been organising, students burnt advertisement banners of soft drink manufacturing firms and a cellular operator.
Students alleged that the cellular operator was providing support to Sri Lanka and turned their ire on soft drink firms by using the soft drinks to wash their foot wear, accusing multi-national brands of showing scant regard for the lives of Tamil race.
In Pollachi, a group of students burnt the copy of the US-sponsored resolution tabled before the United Nations Human Rights Session at Geneva stating that the diluted resolution would do no good to the displaced Tamils in the island nation.
A group of auto rickshaw drivers staged a fast at Kinathukkadavu. Students of Perur Tamil College called off their fast and agitation.
