An AIADMK councillor’s house at Kavundampalayam here was raided by Election Commission officials and Income Tax sleuths late on Sunday to detect unaccounted cash. A senior official in the expenditure monitoring committee told The Hindu that on Sunday evening the election control room at the district collectorate received a call stating that unaccounted money was stacked in the house of the corporation councillor M. Rajendran alias ‘Vakkil’ Rajendran at Senthil Nagar Second Street in Kavundampalayam.

Income Tax department, flying squad and police were informed and more than 30 personnel rushed to the spot.

While the flying squad and police waited outside the house, Income Tax personnel conducted the raid. The team searched the house and cars in his house and quizzed Mr. Rajendran and his family.

Later, the observer for Kavundampalayam Assembly constituency Abhishek Gramin also conducted inquiries. The councillor could not be reached for comments.
