Demanding regular supply of drinking water, cadre of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) staged a demonstration here on Thursday. They urged the Rasipuram Municipality to streamline the water supply.
The cadre led by headquarters secretary K.A. Senkottaiyan raised slogans against the civic body by listing out its commissions and omissions.
The members said that water was being supplied once in 20 days thus forcing people to suffer. House tax had also been raised along with underground drainage cess. The deposit collected for underground drainage should be withdrawn. The menace of stray dogs in Rasipuram was posing a serious threat to residents. The other issued highlighted included bad roads, garbage heaps, mosquito menace etc. The activists also criticised the increase in water tax from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000. They also demanded that those who demolished the public toilet should be arrested.
The members raised slogans against the DMK government. Namakkal district secretary and MLA P. Thangamani and urban secretary M. Balasubramanian took part in the agitation.
