Corporation officials have started removing illuminated advertisement panels along the Race Course walking track, as the District Collector has refused to renew the contract. The three-year advertisement contract ended on March 31. According to the contract, the agency concerned should maintain the Race Course.

There were objections to placing of these illuminated advertisement panels, as they distracted motorists.

All the 240 illuminated advertisement panels would be removed in a day or two.

During the World Classical Tamil Conference, permission was granted to erect over 1,000 such boards in various parts of the city.

The Corporation would remove them as and when the contract period expired, official sources said.
