People in many parts of Perundurai town and its suburbs are reeling under acute water shortage. As the local administrations in the block had failed to address problems in the drinking water distribution network, the frequency of water supply had gone up from a minimum of two days to five days in many residential areas.
In a few parts, people were getting water supply once in a week.
Women can often be seen waiting in queues at the public water taps to collect water. “The duration of water supply had also come down in many villages. Earlier we used to get water in the pipeline for at least two hours. Now it has been reduced to 45 minutes in our area,” residents of Sivasakthi Nagar in Perundurai town said.
The shortage in the supply had forced the people to depend on parallel supply of water by private individuals and companies.
Ensure supply
Residents had appealed to the district administration to initiate immediate measures to ensure adequate supply of water to all the residential areas in Perundurai block. Steps should also be taken to sort out the problems in the water distribution network, they demanded.
