Animal rights activists have petitioned the district administration to take action against meat stall owners whom they alleged were illegally transporting cattle to Kerala.

In a petition submitted to District Collector Archana Patnaik, they also refuted allegations made by meat stall owners that the Goshala had illegally seized the cattle.

The animal rights activists stated in their petition to the Collector that they had taken only those animals that were being transported without due permission and in appalling conditions.

Further, they stated that the matter was presently being heard in the courts.

Illegal

In this context, the move by the meat stall owners to go on a strike and stage protests was illegal, they said.
