Accused in Kodanad case re-admitted to hospital

Kodanad burglary case accused Sayan was re-admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Wednesday after he complained of pain and uneasiness. When doctors at the Central Prison examined him on Tuesday night before admission as remand prisoner, he had complained of pain from injuries suffered from an accident he met with after the burglary.

The doctors then recommended that he be re-admitted to the hospital. Earlier on Tuesday, the Nilgiris district police, investigating the burglary case, took him to the scene of crime in Kodanad estate and produced him before a magistrate in Kothagiri. Sources said that the Sayan was recuperating at the prisoners’ ward in the Hospital.

Three held

The Perur All Women Police have arrested three persons in connection with a child marriage case. The arrested were the bridegroom M. Karthik Kumar (23), marriage broker Dhanalakshmi (40) and the bride’s mother Thilaga after a case was registered against them under the provisions of The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.

The sources said that the bride and bridegroom’s families went ahead with the marriage despite an advice against doing so from the Social Welfare Officer. Following information that the families were solemnising the wedding at Kuniamuthur on June 5, the Kuniamuthur Police went there, ascertained the facts and then alerted the Perur Police, who took over the investigation and registered the case.

The Perur Police also produced the accused before a court that remanded them in custody. The Police rescued the 14-year-old bride and had lodged her at a children’s home.

Cash stolen

Unidentified persons stole ₹ 1.40 lakh from Abbas who had placed it inside a bag and kept it outside a mosque before entering it for prayer on Ramachandra Road, R.S. Puram, a few days ago. The victim found the cash and also mobile missing. He then lodged a complaint with the city police, who have registered a case.

In another incident, unidentified persons barged into a room in a men’s hostel at Kuniamuthur on Tuesday and decamped with the laptop and mobile phone of one of the occupants. The Kuniamuthur police said the four, who entered the room, assaulted Sajith, Hari Krishnan, Kannan and Sujith and took away the laptop, helmet and also mobile phone. Based on a complaint from Sajith, the Police said they had registered a case.
