About 9,000 devotees witness car festival

Amid tight security, the Koniamman Temple car festival was held on Wednesday with the temple car being pulled by devotees at 2.30 p.m.

Coimbatore City Police sources said that 900 police personnel, including 200 from the Armed Reserve, provided security to devotees and also those pulled the car through Raja Street, Oppanakara Street, Vysial Street and Karuppa Gounder Street.

State Minister for Municipal Administration S.P. Velumani, Mayor P. Rajkumar, Joint Commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department Ilamparithi, Member of Legislative Assembly ‘Challenger’ Dorai and others participated in the festival.

Police said that around 9,000 devotees visited the temple.
