The baby kidnapped on Sunday at Kandhal was rescued by the police in Udhagamandalam on Monday.

A nine-month-old girl child abducted from her home in Khandal on Saturday was rescued by the police on Monday.

The police said that the accused, A. R. Kousiya (37) of Udhagamandalam, had allegedly kidnapped the child as she wanted to raise a daughter. The woman had two sons.

Kousiya had reportedly gone to a house in Khandal posing as a potential tenant when she stole the baby.

The police arrested Kousiya and booked her for kidnapping.

She was remanded to judicial custody.

The girl, R. Nisara, was reunited with her parents. Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police, Murali Rambha, was at the scene of the arrest.
