At dusk everyday, the venue of the 19th All India Mango Exhibition, the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, turns into a haven for anti-social elements, according to social activists here on Friday.
The activists alleged that these people with ‘strong political support' consume liquor behind the stage put up for cultural programmes and near the cycle stand and leave the bottles at the venue.
V. Gnanasekaran, a businessman, told The Hindu that the liquor bottles were strewn around the ground, especially near the entrance of the school gate.
The authorities should take stern action against the culprits, he said.
Police pickets
P. Shanmugam, district secretary, Red Cross Association, said that police pickets should be strengthened in and around the exhibition venue.
