Two arrested under Goondas Act

Two persons, who were involved in decamping with 150 sovereign of gold and ₹40 lakh from a businessman’s house near Singanallur in October, 2016, were detained under Goondas Act. The two arrested have been identified as Muhammed Rizwan (30) of Krishnagiri district and Krishnan aka Muthukrishnan (46) of Ramanathapuram district.

They were part of the 11-member gang posing as Income Tax department sleuths who decamped with the jewellery and cash from the house of S. Basheer, a businessman, on October 5 last year. While two of them came in police uniform, others were in plain clothes. They had come in a vehicle with stickers of Government of India.

The businessman had kept the money and gold at home for the marriage of his daughter scheduled in January. After committing the theft, the group had also taken away hard disc of CCTV surveillance system stating that they wanted to examine the same.

The two had been lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.

Four arrested

Police arrested four persons on the charges of possession and sale of ganja. The arrested were Babimohan (21) of Gudalur, Ajith (19) of Palakkad, Rajendran (43) of Sulur, and Yogeswaran (19) of Kaniyur.

The police also seized 2.6 kg of ganja and ₹10,000 from them.

According to police, Babimohan and Ajith were initially picked up with 1.5 kg of ganja during a vehicle checking at Veeriyampalayam on Tuesday.

Based on their confession, the police nabbed remaining two persons.

The arrested were remanded on Wednesday.

electrocuted

Two persons were electrocuted in separate incidents here on Tuesday. In the first case, Rangasamy (64), a resident of Thimmampalayam near Karamadai, died of electric shock he had sustained while switching of motor at his home.

Though family members rushed him to a hospital at Mettupalayam, he was declared brought dead.

In another incident, Vinod Kumar (27), a resident of Thottavavi near Sirumugai, was electrocuted while trying to fix a ceiling fan at his home on Tuesday.

Bodies of deceased persons were handed over to relatives after performing autopsy.
