120 contestants file nomination on last day

As many as 120 contestants filed 146 nominations in the 10 Assembly constituencies in the district on the last day for filing nominations on Friday.

According to sources, Sulur Assembly constituency saw a maximum of 21 nominations followed by Mettupalayam constituency at 20. Valparai Assembly constituency saw the lowest at four.

This takes the total number of nominations for the 10 Assembly constituencies to 345, say sources in the district administration.

In the Kavundampalayam Assembly constituency, DMK nominee R. Krishnan alias Payya Gounder filed his papers before the returning officer saying that he has moveable assets worth Rs. 54.69 lakh and immoveable properties worth over Rs. 20 crore.

In the Mettupalayam Assembly constituency, DMK nominee S. Surendran filed his nomination saying that his moveable property was worth Rs. 26.48 lakh and immoveable assets Rs. 91.14 lakh.

Bharatiya Janata Party nominee for the Singanallur Assembly constituency C.R. Nandhakumar filed his nomination saying that his moveable assets were worth over Rs. 40 lakh and immoveable properties around Rs. 4.50 crore.

146 file papers

As many as 146 persons filed nomination papers in the eight Assembly constituencies in Tirupur district.

On the last day on Friday, 36 persons filed nominations spread over Tirupur South, Avinashi and Kangayam constituencies.

Most prominent among them was K. Selvaraj of DMK, who was the first Mayor of Tirupur, who filed the papers in Tirupur South Assembly constituency.

The scrutiny of the nominations was scheduled on April 30.

Observers

Meanwhile, general observers assigned by Election Commission have arrived in the district.

Following is the list of observers with the contact numbers- Nityananda Mandal, a 2003 batch IAS officer of West Bengal cadre, for Dharapuram and Kangayam constituencies (Tel No: 94880-24923); Gudey Srinivas, a 1990 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre for Avinashi and Tirupur North constituencies (Tel No: 94880-24936); Ahamed Nadeem, a 1997 batch IAS officer of Telangana cadre for Tirupur South and Palladam (Tel No: 94880-20354); and H.L. Rochugnunga, a 2004 IAS officer of Union Territory cadre for Udumalpet and Madathukulam (Tel: No: 94880-24973).
