10,000-plus cases settled at Lok Adalat in Coimbatore

As many as 10,495 cases were settled at the Lok Adalat conducted across the district on Saturday.

According to sources, 702 cases were settled and Rs. 17.57 crore was disbursed to the parties concerned. Another Rs. 1.33 crore was disbursed with the settlement of 181 pre-litigation cases. In Pollachi, 7,492 cases were settled and Rs. 1.55 crore was disbursed to the parties concerned. Another 150 pre-litigation cases were settled for Rs. 20.06 lakh.

In Mettupalayam, 1,411 cases were settled for Rs. 13.36 lakh. Six pre-litigation cases were also settled for Rs. 6.10 lakh.

In Valparai, a little over 400 cases were settled for Rs. 43,700. No pre-litigation cases were taken up.

Sources said that District Judge N. Seshasayee inaugurated the Lok Adalat.

In Udhagamandalam , as many as 9,028 cases including 8,695 falling under the criminal category figured in a special Lok Adalat conducted at the district court here on Saturday. Court sources told The Hindu that in the cases related to banks alone the total amount settled was Rs. 2,83,18,628.While the District and Sessions Judge G.P.Ilango presided, among the others present was retired District Judge A.Noor Ahmed.
