The Army has presented its views on the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) to the Ministry of Defence and it is now for the government to take a decision, Chief of Army Staff General V.K. Singh said here on Saturday.
In an interaction with media persons after reviewing the passing out parade at the Officers' Training Academy here, he pointed out that the Supreme Court had stated that the provisions of the AFSPA were neither arbitrary nor against the Constitution.
On reports about an increase in infiltration in Kashmir, General Singh said it could be due to the two-month-long crisis in the valley. “We are extremely alert and have killed many infiltrators in the last two months.”To queries on reports of Chinese presence in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, he said it was not of concern at the moment.
