Sporadic violence in Tripura

Sporadic incidents of violence were reported from different places in Tripura following the change of guard in the State. The CPI(M) leaders have complained to police of large-scale attacks and threats across their partyworkers in the State. They also demanded adequate deployment of security forces in disturbed areas.

Police on Monday detained Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik after he tried to stage a protest against the alleged killing of civilians in Shopian firing.

Malik, along with his supporters, reached Budshah bridge here and tried to march towards Lal Chowk, officials said. They were stopped and taken into preventive custody, the officials added.

Sam Rockwell today won the Academy Award for the best Actor in a supporting role for his portrayal of a racist-yet-redeemable police officer in Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Rockwell, who was wearing a Time’s Up pin, thanked his film’s team, director McDonagh, fellow nominees and co-stars, calling Woody Harrelson and Frances McDormand his “heroes“.

“This is for Phil (Philip Seymour) Hoffman,” he said in a short speech.
