The CBI filed a charge sheet in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in Ahmedabad on Friday against Gujarat Minister of State for Home Amit Shah and 14 others in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.
The charge sheet was filed without Mr. Shah's examination as he failed to appear before the CBI on Friday too, CBI spokesperson Harsh Bhal said in a press release here. It names a dozen police officers of Gujarat, including DIG D.G. Vanzara. Some of them are already under arrest. The CBI has arrested Abhay Chudasma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ahmedabad, and added his name in the charge sheet. The agency took up investigation on the directions of the Supreme Court and registered a case on February 1, 2010. The case relates to the fake encounter of Shorabuddin and killing of his wife Kausarbi. The court had directed the CBI to submit its report within six months from the date of handing over the case.
The charge sheet against the 15 accused was filed under various provisions of the IPC, including Sections120-B (conspiracy) read with 342 (wrongful confinement), 364 (kidnapping and abducting to murder) 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person) 368 (wrongfully concealing or keeping in confinement kidnapped or abducted person), 384 (extortion), 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of valuable evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offenders).
