Micro-blogging giant Twitter has unveiled a new blue bird for its logo that seems to take flight a bit more than its predecessor. What is more, Twitter has said that its branding will no longer involve any text — no more lower case t or bubbled text — and their online branding will be restricted to the Twitter bird.
Talking about the re-branding of the logo, Twitter's creative Director Doug Bowman on the Twitter Blog — blog.twitter.com — said: “Our new bird grows out of love for ornithology, design within creative constraints, and simple geometry. This bird is crafted purely from three sets of overlapping circles — similar to how your networks, interests and ideas connect and intersect with peers and friends. Whether soaring high above the earth to take in a broad view, or flocking with other birds to achieve a common purpose, a bird in flight is the ultimate representation of freedom, hope and limitless possibility.”
Soaring high
There is no stopping those Angry Birds. The runaway smash hit from Rovio Software seems to be spawning superhit sequels one after the other. The games developer announced in its twitter account that Angry Birds Space, the follow-up to the original Angry Birds game, has crossed 100 million downloads across mobile and browsers. Rovio has been a poster boy for developers the world over when it went viral with the original game that has thus far crossed a billion downloads. The game had tied up with Disney for its Rio iteration, where the movie characters were infused into the gameplay, and Rovio even has a Formula 1 sponsorship going. Now did anyone ever think it was just another stupid game when they first played it?
Instapaper comes to Android
Bookmarking App Instapaper, which has been a fan favourite on the iOS platform for mobile users who like to read a lot, has arrived on the Android platform. The App developer Mobelux, in a post on its blog — mobelux.tumblr.com — noted that: “We've taken great care to make sure Instapaper for Android is a true first class citizen on Android. This is not a cross-platform framework-in-a-box hack job. We carefully designed and implemented layouts for seven-inch tablets (like the Kindle Fire and NOOK Color), 10-inch tablets (like the Motorola XOOM and Samsung Galaxy Tab) and phones (like the Samsung Galaxy series and Motorola Droid series.) Instapaper for Android supports the very highest fidelity screens and uses the newest Android UI paradigms. Long story short, this was a labour of love and we're very proud of what we've made for you.” Instapaper allows its users to store webpages for offline reading too.
