Vairamuthu

Well-known lyricist and national award winner Vairamuthu took everyone at the audio launch of the film “Ponmaalai Pozhudu,” held at Sathyam Cinemas, by surprise when he said, “People have generally known me to be a very content man who does not envy others. However, there is an exception.”

He continued, “I am jealous of Kamal Haasan. The reason: he, as a child, was carried by two of my favourite stars — MGR and Sivaji Ganesan. There were days when I had longed to shake hands with these legends. However, Kamal is lucky to have been carried by both of them.”

Kamal Haasan presided over the function. “Ponmaalai Pozhudu,” which marks the debut of Aadhav Kannadasan, grandson of the late Kaviarasu Kannadasan, is directed by A. C. Durai. Sathya has composed the music.

Words and worth

The words you say can either make or break a heart. Director Pandiraj of “Pasanga” fame shared an interesting experience with the audience at a function held recently in the city.

“My first movie, ‘Pasanga,' had just released and I was tense. Sasikumar, its producer, was delighted the film was doing well at the box office. It was then another producer called. After exchanging the customary greetings, he asked Sasikumar, ‘How is your film faring at the box office?' Sasikumar said, ‘It's doing well.' Unwilling to accept it, he kept saying, “But I heard the film is not doing all that well! You are just putting up a brave front.' He persisted in the same fashion and by the time he hung up, my heart broke. I was crestfallen. That's when the phone rang again. This time, it was veteran actor Sivakumar and the call was for me. He said, ‘I watched your film and was very impressed. It is a fine film and you need to make more such movies.” Those words instantly lifted my spirits. That Sivakumar took time off to appreciate me made a world of difference to me.”

Billa II on June 22?

Well, here's the latest on “Billa II.” The film, sources say, is expected to be screened for the Censor Board on June 11.

According to a source, “The makers are considering the release of the film on June 22, if everything falls in place. The film will release in 600 to 700 screens.”

Directed by Chakri Toleti, “Billa II” is a prequel to the hit “Billa” and features Ajith, Parvathy Omanakuttan and Bruna Abdullah in the lead roles.

Meanwhile, contrary to media reports that the Karthi-starrer “Saguni” is scheduled to hit the screens on July 6, its filmmakers say they are looking at the possibility of releasing it on June 22.

Priyamani in a never-before role

Priyamani essays a double role in her next Tamil flick “Charulatha.” What's special about it, you may ask. She plays conjoined twins in the film, a role nobody has attempted so far in Tamil cinema.

Sources say the first schedule of the film has already been completed in Chennai and Kerala and that the second schedule is on in Bangalore. Says a source: “The audio is likely to be released this month, while the film will hit the screens in July.”

The film is being directed by Ponkumaran and produced by Global One Studios.
