Students of Kendriya Vidayalaya, Narimedu, have made their school proud
Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV), Narimedu brought laurels to their school, bagging medals at Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) National Sports Meet 2012 for boys and girls at Lucknow and Pune respectively.
The students romped home with two gold, one silver and four bronze medals in individual events and four gold and four silver medals in team events respectively.
In all, 31 students of the school represented Chennai Region of KV in various sports and games.
Principal C. Muthiah said, “Our school has sent the largest contingent of 31 students representing the KVS Chennai Region.”
Seven girls and two boys from the under 14 category, four girls and one boy from under 17, and nine girls and eight boys from under 19 took part in kabaddi, badminton, chess, swimming, shooting, volleyball, throw ball, hand ball and athletics.
Priya Damodharan won the gold in (airgun) shooting (under 17), creating a new national record. J. Cathrine, Juvitha, P. Meena Megala and P. Rajkumar were selected to represent the KVS kabaddi team (under 19). Juvitha is the captain of the team. K. Sangeetha represented KVS in badminton (singles and doubles under 19). It is the second time she has qualified to represent the KVS team.
B. Hema has been selected to represent the KVS chess team for the third consecutive year.
“Around 20,000 students from 25 regions of KVS across the country participated in the KVS meet,” said M. Paneerselvam, TGT, Physical and Health Education.
Medal winners were felicitated with cash awards.
Seven students have qualified to take part in the School Games Federation of India meet to be held in December 2012 and January 2013.
