On our query: Will actor Hema Malini, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka, deliver the goods for the State, N. Mukund says:

I do not think so. She does not know the problems of Karnataka, having never lived here. Hema Malini may address matters that concern India and might make a good representative for the BJP, but she will not make a competent lobbyist for Karnataka. I am not against people from outside representing us, but the track record of such individuals has not been good. Venkaiah Naidu has been nominated twice from Karnataka, but what has been his contribution to the State?

Our question this fortnight: The Andhra Pradesh Government marked International Women's Day with a holiday for women on March 8. Should Karnataka do the same? Or should it come up with a similar gesture to promote awareness about the need for gender equality?
