With a little over a month left for the start of the Rio Olympics, sprint sensation Usain Bolt will be lining up at the Jamaican Olympic athletics trials on Thursday to ensure qualification. Bolt is aiming to complete a three-peat of winning the 100 m, 200 m and 4x100 m race for the third Olympics in a row.

Poland take on Portugal in the first quarterfinal

Robert Lewandowski’s Poland will face off against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the first quarterfinal of Euro 2016. Though the two marksmen are known for their exploits on the field, both of them have had a rather quiet Euro, with Lewandowski yet to score and Ronaldo only having his brace against Hungary to show.

Poland have had the more stringent defence, having conceded just once in this tournament. The winner of this match will take on Wales or Belgium in the semi-finals.

Loew looks to Khedira’s expertise

Germany coach Joachim Loew will be picking the brains of defensive midfielder Sami Khedira ahead of their crunch game against Italy in the quarterfinals.

Khedira plays for Juventus in Serie A alongside the water-tight rearguard of Italy, who have been rock solid in their defence in Euro 2016.

SWIMMING

Franklin struggles against rising stars at US trials

After Ryan Lochte failed again to qualify in an individual event with a fourth placed finish in the 200 m freestyle, he at least ensured that he will be on the flight to Rio by clinching a spot in the 4x200 freestyle relay.

Missy Franklin, however, is yet to book her place in the squad after she struggled to a seventh place finish in the 100 backstroke event. Olivia Smoliga won the event in 59.02 seconds.

Serena, Murray progress to second round

Before rain wiped out the bulk of the programme on day two of Wimbledon, women’s top seed Serena Williams and men’s second seed Andy Murray made their progress to the second round with straight set wins.
