Here is an unusual website run by Dalit, Adivasi and Bahujan women that invites conversations on a wide range of subjects including the food, art, troubles and hoorahs of these marginalised communities.
From recipes for Yen Marum Thong Ba or Manipuri Egg Curry and the Punjabi Sarson da Saag to blog rolls on Australian Bush Food, a Congo Cook Book and Native American Cuisine, the food section of Saavari has the potential to become a repertoire of recipes from the plates of the marginalised. Regular updates would certainly not dent the more serious nature of conversations being held elsewhere on the website though.
The Art section features creativity of artists such as Kranti Waghmore, Unnamati Syama Sunder, a popular cartoonist studying in Jawaharlal Nehru University of Delhi, and Sudhir Waghmore.
With a clean, professional and appealing look, the website is welcoming and easy to navigate. While the website is an ambitious project at inception, paucity of consistent updates remains a threat to its popularity. Find it at >www.dalitweb.org/savari
The name ‘savari’ has been “inspired by our foremothers, the free-spirited, knowledge-bearing, community healers of the Saura people.” It invites responsible and aware conversations that go towards building an equal world.
