The year end is usually the time for looking back and applauding all the talented people we have come across. This is also the time for presenting awards to the best in different mediums of entertainment like television and cinema or for matter those excelling in sports and literature. Like in the years gone by, Zee TV too awarded the best in the business this week. It was a colourful ceremony attended by some of the biggest television stars.

In a departure from the past when Zee TV has confined itself to awarding only its own popular programmes and actors, this time round it went a step forward by acknowledging the popularity of programmes of other channels as well.

Though Zee conferred awards on its actors in all categories, including Favourite Parivaar, Favourite Jodi, Favourite Popular Face Male/Female, the highlight of the evening was presenting the award to Sony TV’s long running show CID .

While receiving the Zee Rishtey Awards 2014, Shivaji Satham, the most popular actor of the show, said, “It was a pleasant surprise for us when we got a call from Zee for the award. I would like to thank the audience for praising us for all these 17 years.”

Interestingly, the hugely popular show on Colors, Comedy Nights With Kapil was also awarded. Kapil Sharma himself could not make it to the award ceremony but Sunil Grover, better known as Gutthi, did make it to the event along with some other members of the team. Diya Aur Baati , a show on Star Plus, was also awarded.

In the packed stadium comperes Ravi Dubey (Sid of Jamai Raja ) and Shabbir Ahluwalia (Abhi of Kumkum Bhagya ) kept the sprits of the audience high. Paridhi Sharma and Rajat Tokas, who essay the roles of Jodha and Akbar respectively on Zee TV’s historical drama, were presented the Favourite Jodi award. The family of Zee TV’s No.1 show of the year Kumkum Bhagya walked away with the Favourite Parivaar award.

The Favourite Popular Face Male went to Shabbir Ahluwalia, while Sriti Jha, his co-star who plays the character of Pragya in Kumkum Bhagya , bagged the Favourite Popular Face Female award. Ganesh, the baby elephant in the show Bandhan, was given the award for the Favourite Bhai. Favourite Khalnayak award went to Samrat Singh Rathaur from Doli Armanon Ki . The Favourite Non-Fiction show of the year award went to Little Masters 3 and the Best Dosti award went to Bhagwan Das-Shivaye from Neeli Chatri Wale .
