They can be termed as the wonders of nature. The receding sea at the beach opposite the Thotlakonda arch has brought to light some spectacular rock formations and marine life. Several rock formations eerily jutting out of the water along this part of the coast make for an interesting study.
The structures are said to be the effects of powerful wave action. According to geologists, Vizag Coast is rich in Khondalite rock formations, a result of millions of years of geological weathering process, which has made formations in the coast, some in the shape of dunes, peculiar structures and some forming bridge-like arches.
These structures are spotted during low tides. A cautious walk along this part of the coast will also reveal marine species like the Peacock’s Tail, a brown algae that grows on rocky shores like fan-shaped clusters.
The rocks are also believed to be death traps for many unsuspecting visitors venturing into the sea in the Vizag coast.
At some places, waves funnel through the structures to create spectacular vertical sprays. Similar structures have also been spotted at Tirumala and are believed to be over 1,000 million years old.
