The Gallery Café, which is celebrating its first anniversary, has on display a collection of limited edition prints of photographs taken by Raja Deen Dayal to mark World Heritage Day.
The photographs are a window into an era when the city was less congested and didn’t need pollution control measures. The master lensman gives us a bird’s eye view of the busy Principle Street near Charminar, where vendors occupy a portion of the street. With an intentional blur, he portrays the frenzied activity on Afzalgunj bridge during a procession. Elsewhere, we witness a gathering after the Lungar and the Kotwal salute.
Deen Dayal captures a regular day at Nampally station, and the James Street near the police station. In these photographs, one gets an idea of the people, their attire and way of living. Dressed in crisp whites, they stride on foot or commute on bicycles.
The photographs that focus on architecture capture the Afzal Mahal at Chowmahalla Palace, Mecca Masjid and the now lesser known Basheerbagh Palace and Jahanuma Palace.
The photographs on display have an 18x25 image size and are printed on Epson enhanced matte or archival matte paper, and sourced from Kalakriti Archives. On view till April 30.
