Leisure Go on a tour of monasteries and Tibetan palaces

Women on Wanderlust (WOW), the women travellers forum, organises a “Lhasa — Everest Base Camp Tour”, a ‘11 nights, 12 days' tour starting July 4, from Kathmandu.

A day's sightseeing, shopping and a view of Mt. Everest gets the trip going. Then, take a trans-Himalayan flight to Lhasa. In Lhasa, you get to spend two days on a sightseeing tour.

See the Potala Palace, housing key protected cultural relics, which gives an idea of Tibetan history, religion, culture and arts.

On a jeep tour, visit Norbulingka Palace, with the biggest man-made garden in Tibet, then the Drepung Monastery and the Sera Monastery.

Also visit Gyantse via Lake Yamdruk (Yamdruk Tso). Gyantse lies along the caravan routes from Sikkim and Bhutan in the South, and it assumed an important role as a military centre and market town, and is particularly known for wool and handicrafts.

See the Kumbum Stupa, said to have 100,000 Buddha images. Days nine to 12 of the tour will be at the Everest Base Camp. You get to Rongbuk — Base of Mt. Everest via Pangla pass — where you get magnificent views of the valley of Mount Everest. Then, journey on the Tibetan plateau.

The package cost per person on twin sharing basis is Rs. 85,500, and the last date to register is June 25.
