The night is very young

Weekend breakfasts and brunches are a happy way for the party to continue. They are also a chance for pubs in town to show off their cooking chops

After dancing the night away on Saturday, if you would like the party to continue into Sunday, breakfast at a pub would be a good option to keep the spirits swinging. Weekend breakfasts give gastropubs in town a chance to show off their cooking chops

Earlier, microbrewery Biere Club introduced what was touted as Bangalore’s first ‘hangover breakfast’, featuring a menu replete with breakfast specials and morning after drinks. And the Lavelle Road pub witnesses over a hundred footfalls each weekend for its breakfast specials.

Regulars like French toast and pancakes compete with specials like the breakfastwich, a meat and cheese modified version of a submarine sandwich, and the breakfast pizza, a bacon and sausage delight. And while the all-time favourite English breakfast is omnipresent, it is marginally overshadowed by the drinks section—beer sangrias, beer bombs and beer cocktails.

At Monkey Bar on Wood Street, the food and drinks are equally popular. A year after the weekend breakfasts were introduced, bagels with smoked salmon and eggs in a blanket continue to top the menu.

For the more health conscious who trot in after their morning walk or gymnasium routine, the cereal sundae is a hit with its homemade granola and lemon-yoghurt gelato. For the regulars though, nothing comes between them and their red velvet waffles, a glorious homage to waffles topped with cream cheese and almond praline.

And while drinks like the bloody monkey, the bar’s take on the bloody Mary, and wild leaf, vodka infused with kaffir lime leaf are popular, teetotalers aren’t left without options. “I had the tender coconut water and some of Lord Cubbon’s Vice, the full English breakfast. Both were superb, sure to please anyone hungry in the morning!,” says avowed teetotaler Salome Inamdar, who ventured into the bar upon a friend’s recommendation.

While Biere Club and Monkey Bar leave it to their patrons to decide what to order, Blimey on M G road eschews à la carte in favour of a set price brunch with unlimited food and alcohol. According to Madi, senior captain at Blimey, the oysters from their seafood selection are their most popular items. With crowds over a hundred be prepared for a lively Sunday outing!

For those looking for an Asian twist, Shiro in UB City also offers a Sunday brunch with unlimited drinks and Korean, Japanese and Thai food. Loveshack in Domlur, on the other hand, offers a barbeque brunch for a relaxing group experience. And it’s only a matter of time before the other watering holes start opening their doors bright and early.
