Evoking California through the ambience, food and music of California is the California Boulevard which opened its second outlet recently in Sector 29 of Gurgaon. A world-cuisine restaurant, The California Boulevard offers delicacies from 30 countries. It is only after the first outlet in west Delhi tasted success the owners opened the second space. Shining yellow Harley Davidson parked at the entrance welcomes its patrons who can’t resist a a selfie with the beauty. From Hollywood posters to wall of fame to designer furniture to serving ware to western music and fragrance of luxurious perfumes, everything falls into place in a harmonious manner.

To start nothing beats a prawn curry laksa in this weather. The soup was served piping hot with loads of prawns in it but the curry should have been slightly thicker. Nevertheless, it was good. People who love coffee can try their mushroom cappuccino which is quite promising. The only vegetarian starter which I had was button mushroom in schezwan sauce and it was made to perfection. Balanced spices and the crunch made it taste even better.

Sushi and dim sums, my next stoppage, weren’t bad either. To my surprise both were quite decent. Back to some desi stuff — mutton burrah and fish tikka were also good. I must say their burrah was made exceptionally well and has the potential to become one of their signatures in the future. Another highlight atThe California Boulevard is the music videos which they play. Watching a recording of Eagles playing “Hotel California” live on stage after such a long time reminded me of my days when I used to listen to them all day long.

For the main course, I decided to sample three different flavours, so I ordered lasagna, diced chicken ma lha and the California taurus burger. Lasagna was overloaded with the mince which overpowered the cheese while the oriental master dish went well with the fried rice. One of the major disappointments for the day was the burger which had a very dry patty which put me off. I am glad that chef served me their gazzak kulfi which I must admit was one of the best desserts I have had in recent times. Served in a chocolate mould with crushed gazzak it was just outstanding.
