That time of the year is upon us – everyone is busy making all sorts of end-of-the-year lists. So, I’ve made a list too, of some of the best apps currently available in the market. Here’s the first of a two-part round-up.
LokLok
Remember those first few minutes of waking up? You’re fighting sleep; you’re uncoordinated and clumsy. You can’t get your eyes to open, your brain to function or your arms to work. And yet, the first thing you do is reach out to your phone to either send a “good morning” message to your sweetheart or remind a tardy co-worker of an important meeting. At such a moment, instead of struggling to type the message when your brain is in a half-flogged state, you can set LokLok as your lockscreen. Whatever you doodle on it will appear immediately on your friend’s lockscreen (assuming your friend has LokLok installed too, of course). It works like a whiteboard, anybody can erase and re-scribble whatever they want – and there is no history saved. It’s like Snapchat’s text version.
RouteShoot
RouteShoot video and GPS app is, as someone very aptly put it, “a blend of GoPro, Strava and Google Street View”. If you identify with being a constant traveller , then you know the importance of recording your route via GPS and video, not just for the memories, but also for future reference. It’s not rocket science to figure out how to get the best out of the app. Just shoot and upload; it’s as simple as that. The app links the video to GPS and graphs (elevation, speed, etc.), converting it into a personal, point-of-view Google Street View-type video. It’s saved on the app’s own servers, so that you have free space on your phone for when you take that breathtaking timelapse sunset shot. Don’t forget to use a smartphone mount, though.
Pixlr
There are photo editors galore in the market today, but not a lot of them can match up to the power of Pixlr. Unlike most free apps, Pixlr is entirely ad-free. It provides a huge range of comprehensive photo editing tools which can beat most features of a paid app in a knock-down, drag-out fight. Check it out for yourselves and create masterpieces out of all your party pictures.
