Like Priyanka Chopra's many hairstyles or what Shilpa Shetty or Neha Dhupia do to their tresses? Here's the man who's responsible for their glossy, classy, edgy, funky styles. Savio John Pereira, the popular hairdresser from Mumbai was in the city along with a group of hairstylists from across the country to launch the Wahl's range of styling accessories and train the city's salon professionals on how to use them.
Savio's impressive client list also includes Kangna Ranaut, Sonakshi Sinha, Preity Zinta, Ajay Devgn, Vijay Mallya, Urmila Matondkar, and M.S. Dhoni, among others. “It's interesting to work with Kangna Ranaut and Priyanka's hair because they have versatile hair. Among the men, I guess it's Sreesanth, because he likes to play around with his hair, and Brett Lee too.” Is there anybody in particular he but would like to style? “The list is long…but I have been watching Mamata Bannerjee on the television for the last few days and I would like to do her hair, give her layers and keep it sleek in front,” he smiles.
Changing scenario
Having been part of the industry for 13 years, Savio feels the market is opening up and people are getting experimental. “There are people willing to try different cuts and colours, and then there are those stuck to Bollywood styles. They want what they see on television. It's a challenge to get them to try something new and carry out something that suits their personality,” adds the expert.
About styles, he says mid length and short cuts are in. The classic A line bob is big this summer, so are disconnected fringes. As for colours, it's a mix of browns and auburn. And, no platinum blondes, please.
Addressing upcoming hairdressers, he says: “This is a good profession to be in. There's loads of money, creative freedom and satisfaction.” But he believes that to be successful, one needs to constantly keep training himself, have the right attitude, be open to clients' suggestions and work hard. And what's keeping him busy apart from giving people a new look and flattering hair-dos? “I've done Kangna's hair for “I Love New York”, and I am working on Sonakshi's for her upcoming film, still untitled.”
