It has been one of those days. A shoe that broke on your way to work. The phone call that ended with you slamming down the instrument. Opening your lunch dabba to discover your rotis buried under your least favourite vegetable. Getting ticked off by your boss.

All you want to do is go home, bury yourself under a warm quilt and erase the day from your memory forever.

Or if you’re lucky, you can head to Spa by JW, which offers an exhaustive range of treatments that claim to provide holistic wellness of the mind, body and soul. From curing your jet lag to clearing your mind, detoxifying your body and promising great sleep, the Spa has a bit for nearly everyone.

I step into the spa and am engulfed with a wave of calm. I am offered the Signature Spa Experience—a unique experience that promised to relax my body and calm my mind.

My masseuse, Boinu is a petite thing with clear skin and large eyes and seems amused by my admittedly frazzled demeanour. She leads me into a small ante-room, hands over a questionnaire and helps me fill it. Then she takes me to the massage room, hands over a fluffy white robe.

I slip into the robe, wear my slippers and pad out. Dim lights, cool air and silence greet me. The experience begins with a dry massage, a unique balancing ritual to help calm my mind. This is followed by a warm, long massage with scented oil and a mild exfoliation using a combination of sandalwood and saffron.

I am half asleep by then—the soft music and Boinu’s skilled treatment has a soporific effect and I am loath to get off my pallet. But Boinu gently but firmly leads me to the shower, hands me a towel, points out the various unguents available and leaves me to wash off.

I step out refreshed, alive and ready to face the world. The two hour long treatment has worked wonders and I feel wonderfully light. My wallet is lighter too by Rs. 6500 but it was so worth it.
