There was excitement just around the corner from our office, at the otherwise rather sedate VOC park. Kids perched on the walls. Boys climbed up the trees and an unusual number of vans were parked everywhere. There was furious clicking of pictures on phones.
“ Do paaru…Sivakarthikeyan ”, a school girl in pig tail screamed pointing at the cameras and the lights. A shooting was in progress.
Movie star Sivakarthikeyan and his friend were in the midst of a scene where they argued with a traffic policeman. A stern “Cut”, from the director stopped the proceedings for a while as he shouted out instructions to the light boys to readjust the lighting. The shooting resumed and after a few takes and retakes, the scene was finally okayed.
“Now you can see the star. He will be coming to his caravan to take rest,” the cops informed the excited crowd. Young girls checked their reflections in vehicle mirrors, before going to meet their hero! The boys shouted out Sivakarthikeyan’s name.
The journalists importantly declared: “We are the press. We get to meet them first.”
As the pecking order was being decided, a convoy sped past. It was the star and his team in swanky cars heading back to the air-conditioned hotel rooms. No one met him there, but the smiles and starry eyes remained.
